Penguin Cupcakes

I have cupcakes on the brain. That's what happens when you work on three different cupcake designs for three different friends in the same week. I made these adorable little penguin cupcakes for a 7th birthday party yesterday:

Working with gumpaste is like going back to kindergarten and playing with play dough. It's just about rolling basic shapes and sticking them together. Once I had the design figured out, it was easy and quick to put them together, assembly-line style. Add that to the fact that gumpaste can be done weeks--even months!--ahead of time, and you have a great DIY project if you're undertaking making wedding or party cupcakes. Look how incredibly simple the cupcakes are. But when you add a gumpaste topper, WOW! I've said it before, I'll say it again: I love all the printables out there, but I really, really love edible cupcake toppers.

Or make them a little bigger, add a top hat and bow tie to one, a veil and bouquet to another, and they'd make an adorable cake topper for a winter wedding.
