Easy, Elegant Equestrian Seating Cards Tutorial

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Hosting an event with equestrian style?  These seating cards are absolutely perfect, and are incredibly easy and inexpensive to make.  I used them for the English Equestrian Birthday Tea Party, but they're so elegant, they could be used for a much more formal event (like a wedding) as well.

Materials for Equestrian Horse Seating Card:

  • Cardstock
  • plastic toy horses
  • silver spray paint
  • coping saw

I started by ordering these inexpensive toy horses from amazon.

Then I spray painted them with silver spray paint.  I needed several light coats of the paint to get good coverage.

After the paint had dried, I used a coping saw to cut a slit in the back of the horse.  I used a coping saw because I had it on hand, but I'll bet any number of other tools could do the job--even a serrated kitchen knife (be careful!).  The plastic isn't very hard.

Make a simple rectangular cardstock rectangle for your name card.  I used some fabric cardstock for embellishment; it's an easy way to make the name card something really special without much effort at all.

Of course, plastic horses are just one example--imagine the possibilities out there!  Cars, zoo animals, dinosaurs...  You can bet you'll be seeing me use this technique again.
