Easy Frozen Crown Tutorial Made with a Glue Gun and Glitter

Do you have someone who wants to be Elsa for Halloween?  (Who doesn't, this year?  It's going to be Night of the Living Elsas this Halloween)  Or perhaps a character like Jadis, the White Witch, from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe?  Or any sort of snow fairy or princess?  Have I got the craft for you!  An easy, fast, sparkling icicle snow crown made with a glue gun and glitter!

Really.  This crown of icy, sparkly awesomeness was made with a glue gun and glitter.

To Make Elsa's Snow Crown, You'll Need:

  • glue gun
  • glitter
  • silpat or parchment paper
  • headband or tiara base
  • ribbon (optional)

I used a metal tiara base, but it would work just as well to use a headband.  If you're using something metal, whether it's a tiara base or a headband, you should know that glue guns do not glue to metal very well at all.  To give the glue gun something to hold on to, I wrapped the metal tiara base in white satin ribbon.

I started by tying the ribbon at one end, then wrapping the ribbon around and around the metal, until the entire band was covered.  I was using what I had on hand, but if I were to buy materials for this craft, I would have picked up an inexpensive fabric-covered headband.  They almost always have those in multi packs at the dollar store.

Next, it's time to make icicles!  This is insanely easy, and just involves running a line of glue from the hot glue gun on a silpat or parchment paper, then quickly (while it's still hot and sticky) cover with glitter.

When the glue is cool, you can easily peel them from the silpat and shake off the excess glitter.

Make a whole bunch!

Make them in a bunch of different colors!    I love having a boxed set of extra fine glitters, because then I have a whole range of blues (or whatever color) to choose from and use.  This tiara would look cool with just one color of icicle, but it's way better with a mix of shades!

Assembling the crown is as simple as using the hot glue gun to attach the icicles to the tiara base or headband.

I chose the taller ones for the front of the tiara, and tapered it as it reached the sides, but do whatever you think looks good.  I wanted an organic, natural icicle look, so I wanted the line to be a bit jagged and varying in height.

Keep gluing the icicles on until you like how the crown looks.

All you need to do now is don your magnificent crown of ice and go rule the world.
