We spent the last three weeks on a magnificent family vacation in England, and while we were away, my oldest daughter turned 12.
We didn't have room in our suitcase to pack bulky presents, so instead, I used a brilliant idea my friend Beth told me about.
Blow up as many balloons as the child is old. Ainsley turned 12, so we had 12 balloons.
Inside each balloon (before you inflate them, obviously) insert a small present. We used mostly money for our oh-so-grown-up tween, but since we officially gave Ainsley license to wear makeup in public, I also tucked mascara and an eyeliner in a couple of the balloons. Anything little works.
Give the kid something sharp and let her start popping!
The balloons took up almost no room at all, and everyone had a fabulous time watching Ainsley extract her presents. It was the perfect solution for our birthday celebration so far from home.
We were staying in an old refurbished church that had been turned into a rental property in Chilcompton, England. SUCH a cool house to rent!
We even had our very own gargoyle! If you're ever looking for a place to rent in Somerset, I highly recommend this property! Perfectly situated, so comfortable, and such character.
