These candy cane striped ribbon Christmas trees are easy DIY Christmas decorations to make, and make the sweetest gift toppers, gift tags, and even Christmas ornaments.
I absolutely love creative gift wrapping ideas, so Christmastime is extra fun for me. Especially when I can come up with a fun new DIY gift tag or gift topper like these adorable ribbon Christmas trees.
I decided to use just sequin string instead of ribbon on this gift, to let the ribbon tree gift tag really take center stage.
I used these adorable peppermint striped ribbons I found at Michaels, but you could use any color or pattern of ribbon you want for your ribbon Christmas trees. Green grosgrain ribbon would be absolutely perfect, I think.
Materials for Ribbon Christmas Tree Gift Tags or Christmas Ornaments:
- Sticks (from the backyard) or you could use a pretty paper straw
- cardstock
- ribbon (less than an inch wide for this craft)
- low temperature hot glue gun
- Miniature red velvet bows (optional)
These ribbon Christmas tree gift tags can really be made in any size, so I didn't create a template for you. I just folded my cardstock in half, and cut it into random symmetrical triangle shapes.
Cut short lengths of ribbon, approximately 1.5" to 2" long. Glue the "right" sides of the ribbon together (top side to top side), to make a kind of pointed loop. Glue those loops of ribbon to the cardstock base.
Make a tree trunk out of a bit of a tree branch (I just found mine in the backyard). Or it would look really sweet to use a cute striped paper straw for the trunk!
You can leave the tops of the ribbon Christmas trees plain, or top them with another little bow. You could certainly make the bows, but I used inexpensive red velvet bows pre-made. I bought my pack of bows at the dollar store, but you can also find them online.
These made darling DIY Christmas ornaments. When I made them as Christmas ornaments, I added ribbon loops to the back side of the ribbon tree just so it would look great from every angle.
But I like these ribbon Christmas trees best as gift toppers! All the presents I'm wrapping this year are going to be rocking a peppermint Christmas vibe, and I love it.
