Glitter makes everything more fun, right?  It's an easy way to add sparkle and color to just about any craft, and was perfect for customizing this inexpensive party store birthday candle.

Tutorial for turning a plain number candle from the store into a sparkly, glittery, gorgeous custom candle.

The original design with the polka dots and royal blue was cute, but I wanted something different.  Something just right for Tikkido's 5th birthday.

Materials for Custom Glitter Birthday Candle Tutorial

Materials for a sparkling, embellished number birthday candle:

  • inexpensive number candle
  • craft glue
  • glitter
  • small rhinestones (I used ss16 Preciosa rhinestones)

Covering the plain number 5 birthday candle with glitter.

I bought my number candle for $.99 at my local Party City party store.  The raised blue edges made it easy to flood the center portion with craft glue and coat with glitter to cover the polka dots and create my own customized look.

A little more glue and careful placement of the rhinestones covered up the last of the original candle colors and added extra sparkle.

The hardest part was waiting for the glue to dry!  There's a reason I like using instant-gratification glue guns so much.  ;-)  But my patience paid off, because the flat, even layer of glue was absolutely perfect for the candle.  A glue gun would have made a lumpy, sparkly mess.

What a fun way to celebrate a special birthday!
