These not-too-spooky halloween napkin rings are made from googly eyes and felt, and are the perfect addition to your Halloween tablescape. I love making DIY napkin rings for holidays and parties, and this googly eyes craft is perfect for Halloween.
I love making DIY napkin rings, in large part because they're so expensive to buy in the store.
I'd much rather have a fun craft project and save money at the same time.
Materials for Googly Eyes DIY Napkin Rings:
- googly eyes
- felt
- toilet paper roll
- low temperature glue gun
Cut a strip of felt slightly longer than the circumfrence of the toilet paper roll. Glue the googly eyes to the felt, leaving a small strip of felt bare at one end to overlap when you glue the napkin ring together.
I realized only after I'd glued down all of the googly eyes, that I'd accidentally bought self-adhesive googly eyes, and the backs were lined with that slippery sticker paper. Which made the glued eyes pop right off the felt. So if you have the sticker version of googly eyes, don't glue them down! Just peel the backs off of the googly eyes and stick them directly on the felt. The adhesive actually works surprisingly well for this craft.
Getting the paper backings off of the self-adhesive googly eyes, however, was nearly impossible! If that sticker paper backing didn't make the hot glue gun useless, I would have jsut glued everything anyway. After some experimenting, I discovered that the easiest way to remove the sticker backing was with a pin.
Cut away the excess felt from the edges of the strip of googly eyes. Leave a little tab of plain felt at one end to overlap when you glue the napkin ring together.
I used an empty toilet paper roll as the basic structure for my napkin rings. (They're the perfect size and easy to cut!)
Cut a narrow strip of the toilet paper roll, and glue a narrow strip of felt to the inside of the roll. This step isn't necessary, since you wouldn't see the inside of a napkin ring when it's in use, but it does give the DIY napkin ring a more polished, finished look.
Glue the googly eye strip to the outside of the cardboard ring.
Slide on your napkins, and you'll be ready to dine in spooky style.
