Easy Yarn Pom Pom Pumpkin Garland

Make this easy fall and Halloween garland out of just yarn and a bit of wire!  Turn the yarn into fluffy, fun pom poms, and add a wire stem to transform the pom pom into a pumpkin.  It's the perfect DIY fall decor that will last all autumn long.

There's something irresistable about yarn pom poms, isn't there?  They're fluffy and fun and warm and cozy--absolutely perfect for a fall garland.

And this pumpkin pom pom garland couldn't be easier to make!

Or cuter, if I do say so myself.

Yarn Pom Pom Pumpkin Fall Garland Materials:

  • grapevine floral wire
  • sturdy wire cutters
  • orange yarn
  • pom pom maker
  • twine (optional, could just use more yarn)
  • sharp scissors
  • low temperature glue gun
  • jewelry pliers (not necessary, but helpful)

Start by making a bunch of orange yarn pom poms.  I love using my pom pom makers.  You can make pom poms without a special pom pom maker, but these little gagets make it so easy to make such nice, fluffy pom poms.  And the whole set costs less than $6.

This is the pom pom maker set that I use.  I used the blue pom pom maker for this craft.

It's also nice to have a sharp pair of embroidery scissors to cut the yarn away from the pom pom maker form.  I love using this pair.  Alas, my daughters also love using those scissors and they've gone missing.  I'm sure I'll find them as soon as I break down and buy another pair.

The stem of the yarn pom pom pumpkin is made with a type of floral wire that looks like grape vine.  It looks like this, but you'll be able to get it for a slightly better price from your local craft store.

Cut a piece of the wire approximately 4 inches long.  Bend in half.  Grip the bent end with a pair of jewelry pliers (not necessary, but it does make it easier) and twist the wire ends together, creating a small loop at the top.  Trim off any excess length.

Glue the stem into the pom pom using a low temperature glue gun.

Thread twine (or a strand of yarn) through the loops in the pumpkin stems.  Arrange the pumpkins where you want them on the twine and use pliers to pinch the stem around the twine, ensuring that the pumpkin will remain where you want it to stay.

Cute, right?  I can't wait to layer this with some other fall garlands to create a beautiful fall mantle.

I love the soft and inviting texture of these pom pom pumpkins.

And I really love that this works all fall long, from early fall through Halloween and right up until Christmastime!
