Hand Pie is delicious, simple, baked cream pie. It's very like a custard pie, but this is an eggless pie, so it's not a true custard. This old-fashioned pie recipe has been made in my family for many, many years--I have no clue how far it goes back, but at least 5 generations.
We've already established that I love pie. Any pie. On a big pie occasion like Thanksgiving, it's to choose which ones to eat for dessert, and which ones to save for breakfast the next day. Apple? Cherry? Pecan? Rhubarb? Pumpkin? Even cutting little slivers of pie, tough choices have to be made!
I absolutely adore the fall, and miss the change of seasons here in Phoenix. Now, there's a lot to be said for 80 degree Halloween evenings, too. But I miss the changing leaves, the crisp air, actually having a good reason to wear sweaters and boots. So I love heading up to our family cabin up in the White Mountains of Arizona to at least visit true autumn weather.
We had guests over to our house on Saturday evening for pizza made in the wood-fired oven I built in our backyard. We had a wonderful time. Friends, wine, great food--what could be better?
Whenever we host a pizza night, I like to err on the side of having too much food, rather than too little. And I like to offer a lot of different toppings and flavors to our guests. That means that we always have leftover dough and pizza fixings the following day, and that means calzones.
I'm so excited to announce the launch of the Holiday 2012 issue of Festivities Magazine, simply packed with fabulous Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, tutorials, and more!
Make sweet corn tomalito, that amazingly delicious steamed cornmeal and sweet corn pudding you get at Mexican restaraunts, the easy way in the microwave! It's the perfect easy side dish to make for Cinco de Mayo, or any Taco Tuesday.
Marigolds and paper flowers were prominant decor elements at the Dia de los Muertos party, but the photo candle holders were the most meaningful project of the event.
